UNO Women fall to K-State

Omaha, NE. – The Omaha Mavericks fell to the Kansas State Wildcats Wednesday evening at Baxter Arena 87-56. The Mavericks, who dropped to 3-5 on the season, were led in scoring for the second time this season by Elena Pilakouta who finished with 17.

Leaders For Omaha
Pilakouta finished with 17 points to go along with her eight rebounds, she was perfect from the charity stripe downing all five attempts. Sam Mitchell scored in double digits for the second consecutive game finishing with 15 including three shots from deep.

Leaders for Kansas State
Ayoka Lee led the way for the Wildcats, the Junior finished with 19 points and eight rebounds. She was joined in double digits by Jaelyn Glenn, Serena Sundell and Laura Macke who finished with 16, 12 and 10 respectively. Emilee Ebert dished out six assists and hauled in eight rebounds for the Wildcats.

Team Stats
Omaha shot 37.3 (19-51) from the field and was a perfect 13 for 13 from the free throw line. Kansas State shot 47.6 (30-63) percent from the field and was particularly effective from long distance, draining 16 three pointers. The Wildcats outrebounded the Mavericks 35-30, while Omaha outscored Kansas State in the paint 22-20.

Inside the First Quarter
Kansas State came out shooting, knocking down seven triples in the quarter. After a Mitchell three to make the score 8-5, the Wildcats went on a 28-4 run the rest of the quarter with buckets coming from five different Wildcats to take a 36-9 lead into the second.

Inside the Second Quarter
After two Wildcats three’s Katie Keigtes scored the games next five points including a triple, which was followed by Mitchell’s second three of the night. A Cymone Goodrich jumper gave Kansas State a 56-24 lead at the break.

Inside the Third Quarter
The Wildcats extended their lead in the third quarter. After a Macke three and Lee jumper, Mitchell drained two more shots for the Mavericks followed by an Alexis Pratt jumper making the deficit 74-36 going into the final period.

Inside the Fourth Quarter
The Mavericks outscored the Wildcats in the fourth quarter 20-13, including six points from Pilakouta and four from Pratt. 

Next Up
The Mavericks return to Baxter Arena Saturday for their final home game of 2021. They’ll take on the Northern Colorado Bears with tip-off set for 2 p.m.
