KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Thursday’s game between the Mavericks and Roos came down to the final possession, but a missed buzzer beater three-pointer led to a Kansas City win. The Roos picked up their fifth win in league play beating the Mavericks, 64-61.

Omaha falls to 7-15 overall, 3-7 in league play.

Omaha Leaders
Frankie Fidler and Tony Osburn scored 12 points each to lead Omaha. Seven of Fidler’s points came at the foul line, while Osburn went 4-of-9 from the field with three from deep.

Fidler also led Omaha with seven boards, while JJ White tallied a team-best five assists and two steals.

Kansas City Leaders
Shemarri Allen led all-scorers with 20 points on 8-of-21 from the field. Allen David Mukeba had a near perfect night from the field making 7-of-8 for 15 points. He also tallied six boards, two assists, and two seasons.

RayQuawndis Mitchell had a quiet night scoring only 12 points. Promis Idiaru grabbed a game-high eight boards.

Team Stats
Kansas City dominated the boards Thursday, 43-30. The Roos had 18 on the offensive glass to only nine on Omaha’s.

The Mavericks shot 34 percent from the field and 37.5 percent from deep. The Roos finished the night shooting 37.3 percent and were just 3-of-20 from three-point range. 

KC led in points in the paint (34-10), second chance points (20-8), points off turnovers (13-11), on the fast break (10-9), and bench points (24-22).

Inside the First Half
Allen got the scoring started Thursday with a jumper in the paint two minutes in, and the Roos would double their lead to four before Omaha got on the board. It was a slow start to the game with Fidler finally connecting from deep at the 14:54 mark. Less than a minute later Idiaru would put back an offensive board to make it 6-3 in favor of Kansas City.

The score remained 6-3 until the 10:26 mark when Muekba connected for the Roos. KC built its lead to seven by the six-minute mark before Osburn nailed back-to-back threes to get Omaha back within one with just over five to play. Ja’Sean Glover and Kyle Luedtke the combined for five points with Luedtke’s three giving Omaha a 18-16 edge at the 3:34 mark. The Roos tied it once more before halftime, but a 7-4 run for the Mavericks to close the half kept the lead in their favor, 25-23.

Inside the Second Half
Despite the Roos tying the game 25-25 right out of the break, the Mavericks were able to build their lead to seven twice over the first six and a half minutes. Marquel Sutton and Jaeden Marshall went for two straight buckets for a seven-point edge with 14:32 on the clock. Less than a minute later, Jungers out away two at the line to keep the Maverick lead at seven. KC began to chip away and erased the lead with a 7-0 run to tie it with 11:07 to play. Osburn recaptured the lead for the final time with a free throw before Mukeba swung it back to the Roos for the remainder of the game.

The final 10 minutes never saw a lead over six for KC, and Omaha would get the game within one five different times. Down the stretch, Glover hit a three with 10.2 seconds on the clock cutting it to 60-59. Omaha put Mitchell at the line where he sunk two with nine seconds to go. It wasn’t over as White cut it back to one with a pair of free throws himself, but Mitchell hit two more for a 64-61 edge with six seconds left. Fidler chucked up one final three-point attempt for the win, but it hit hard off the rim, and the Roos held on.

Game Notes
-Filder and Osburn were in double-figures for Omaha. It marked Osburn’s second straight game.
-Marshall returned to the court after being sidelined with a foot injury.
