OMAHA, Neb. – Facing the sixth ranked team in the country, the Mavericks got off to a strong start but were ultimately unable to top Arkansas as they were defeated 16-3 in the seven-inning contest.

The Mavericks (7-11) went into the day with the intention of this being a bullpen game, with eight pitchers making an appearance overall. As for the Razorbacks (21-4), they begin their home stand by picking up their 18th home win of the season.

After the Razorbacks cashed in a run in the top of the first, Brennen Bales and Eddie Satisky led off the second inning with a single and a walk, before being bunted over by Zach Lechnir. Then, Henry Zipay, a last-minute addition to the lineup, swung on the first pitch he saw from Arkansas starter Ben Bybee (sporting a 1.98 ERA) and laced a single up the middle for his first RBI of the season. A few seconds later, Satisky would score on a wild pitch to give Omaha a 2-1 lead.

Arkansas would take the lead right back in the bottom of the second by plating five more runs. Mike Boeve, though, cut the deficit to three runs in the top of the third as he sent a high fastball into the foot of the wall in right field for a stand-up RBI double.

This would be as close as Omaha would get, however, as the Razorbacks had a massive bottom of the third inning that saw 12 batters come to the plate and score seven runs to take a 13-3 lead.

Though Arkansas later grew their lead to 16-3, Cooper Prososki and Alex Potter combined for two shutout innings in relief to end the day for Omaha.

Inside the Box Score
Boeve’s double in the third was the 46th of his career, moving him into sole possession of fifth place on Omaha’s all-time doubles leader board. Fourth place is only one double away from Boeve, while third and second are also in reach at 49 and 51 doubles, respectively.

Up Next
The Mavericks return home later this week to open a seven-game home stand starting with a three-game Summit League series vs. Northern Colorado that begins Friday at 5:30 p.m.
