Tuesday afternoon 2 vehicle accident south of Pender

UPDATE:

Two people were transported to Franciscan Healthcare in West Point in critical condition and life flighted to UNMC as the result of an accident at the intersection of Highways 9 and 51 between West Point and Pender Tuesday afternoon. Law enforcement and first responders arrived at the scene around 3:15 p.m. where an SUV the two people were in was engulfed in flames in the southeast ditch of the intersection. A semi pulling a live bottom trailer was on its side in the southwest ditch, and its driver was transported to Franciscan Healthcare with Minor Injuries. According to a press release from the Cuming County Sheriff’s Office, the semi was southbound on Highway 9 when the Highway 51 Westbound SUV pulled out in front of the semi tractor trailer after being stopped at a stop sign. The Nebraska State Patrol, West Point Fire and Rescue, and the State Department of roads all assisted the Sheriff’s Office.

A semi pulling a live bottom trailer was on its side in the southwest ditch. There were multiple people involved in the accident, and at least 2 helicopters were called. According to law enforcement on the scene, the semi was southbound on Highway 9 and the SUV was eastbound on Highway 51. More information will be released soon.
