An eastbound Union Pacific train carrying coal from Wyoming derailed this morning about two miles southeast of Gothenburg. The incident happened at about 7:30 a.m. CDT.

About 30 coal cars derailed, according to UP spokesperson Robin Tysver.

Gothenburg Police Department was notified, and no injuries were reported.

Union Pacific has cleanup crews and equipment en route, with cleanup activities expected to start in earnest later this morning and early afternoon.

Highway 30 remains open in the area, according to Dawson County Sheriff’s Office.
