South Africa native Matthew Oelofse, who now calls Kearney, Nebraska his home, is pursuing his dream of farming in the United States.

Oelofse was able to increase his agricultural knowledge and experience when he had the opportunity to work for a local farm in northern Nebraska before he moved to Kearney.

With the dry conditions this year, he planted some dryland milo in hopes of increased production on his land with less inputs.

Oelofse also plans to add extra fertilizer to receive more bushels and decrease the weed pressure in his fields.

In this year’s season of Fridays in the Field, Jacob Roth will follow along with Oelofse to learn more about his operation.
