“Protecting Agriculture’s Future” theme for 2022 National Farm Safety and Health Week
September 19th, 2022 | Jeff Axtell and Chad Moyer

Agriculture is known as one of the most dangerous industries in America. According to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), about 100 agricultural workers suffer a lost-work-time injury every day, and in 2019 the agriculture industry had a fatality rate of 19.4 deaths per 100,000 workers. National Farm Safety and Health Week has been recognized during the third week of September since it was established by President Roosevelt in 1944, to help bring attention to the risks of working agriculture.

AgriSafe Network RN and North Bend farmer Linda Emanuel stresses the importance of farm safety for kids.

This year’s theme is “Protecting Agriculture’s Future.”

This week is National Farm Safety and Health Week. Emanuel says there are a couple of webinars coming up on youth safety.

Emanuel says Farm Youth and Mental Health and Well Being will be discussed Wednesday afternoon.

Overall Farmer Health Webinars will be held on Tuesday, including a topic discussing Mental Health and the Risk of Suicide and Heat and Wild Fires Exposure among ag workers in the afternoon.

Grain Bin Safety is the focus on Thursday’s Webinars, and Women in Agriculture for Friday’s.
