Northeast to Host Latino Youth Summit Friday

Northeast Community College will host its 2021 Latino Youth Summit Fri., Sept. 24 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., in the Lifelong Learning Center on the Norfolk campus, 601 E. Benjamin Ave.

Over 150 students from area high schools will hear from Latino leaders and college students who will share their stories on how they broke through barriers and achieved success. Local food trucks will also be on campus to serve students lunch. They will also have the opportunity to tour campus.

Speakers include:

Miguelangel Chavez. Chavez is a South Omaha native who embraces his hometown as the field to plant and harvest his ventures and dreams. A first-generation college graduate and a recipient of the Susan Thompson Buffet Scholarship from the University of Nebraska of Omaha with a degree in Public Relations and Advertising. He has brought life to my very own T-Shirt Company, MioTees and a DJ business, DeafAudio DJs with his brother JuanCarlos Chavez.

Blanca Ramirez-Salazar. Ramirez-Salazar recently completed five years as a Partnership Specialist and Partnership Coordinator for the U.S. Census Bureau 12-state Denver Region (2017-2021).  As a Partnership Coordinator, she led three state teams while overseeing partnership strategies/initiatives of a team of 21 specialists with a focus on the hardest-to-count populations. She has 15 years of experience in state and federal government Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) advocacy as well as public health planning with Tribal communities and racial/ethnic minority populations, which include immigrants and refugees.
