SIOUX CITY, IOWA – The Mustangs took advantage of a non-conference match to build some momentum tonight, defeating Buena Vista University in straight sets, 27-25, 25-21, and 25-18.
Morningside’s attack recorded 36 kills, led by Sydney Marlow, with 12. Claire Wilson was close behind, recording 11 kills, and Payten Lode struck for seven. Gillain DePauw recorded 31 of the team’s 34 assists in the match.
Defensively the Mustangs made some noise at the net, recording eight team blocks. Nienke van Drunen led the way with six blocks. Wilson followed with three, and Kylah Brewer had two.
Behind the block, Morningside tallied 66 digs, with Aureana Bernales notching 14, followed by DePauw and Wilson with 12 each and Marlow with 10.
The Mustangs are back in action on Friday, Oct. 6, welcoming Mount Marty to Allee Gymnasium for a 6 p.m. JV contest followed by varsity at 7:30 p.m.
