Fremont, Nebraska- The Fremont Moo scored in each of the first four innings and completed a sweep of the Oahe Zap, 10-6, Thursday night at Historic Moller Field.
Fremont got on the board, in the bottom of the first when Josh Blount was hit by a pitch, with two outs. Blount stole second and Tyman Long delivered a rbi single to make it 1-0, Fremont.
In the bottom of the second, Sammy Contacos reached on a one-out single, then Tyler Hummel did the same. Two batters later, Christian Hobbs hit a rbi single, scoring Contacos to make it 2-0, the Moo.
The Zap fought back, and scored two in the top of the third. Boone Lasater led off with a single and two batters later Trevor Seagraves singled. Trenton Duchscherer reached on an error, scoring Lasater. Two batters later, Kyle Memarian hit a rbi single, scoring Seagraves to tie the score at two.
The Moo recaptured the lead, for good, in the bottom of the third, doing so with the first of two impressive two-out rallys, on the night. Tyler Harrington started what would be the first of five straight singles off starter Brady Glenn. Tablazon, Contacos, Hummel and Hunter Palmer all had base knocks. Contacos and Hummel earned rbi’s with their hits, making it 5-2, Fremont.
Oahe got a run back in the top of the fourth. Preston Lau reached on a one-out error. Two batters later, Jackson Mix reached on an error by Hummel, at second, which scored Lau, making it 5-3.
In the bottom of the fourth, Fremont scored three runs off Zap reliever Abel Anzuldua. Henry Hayman led off with a walk and Josh Blount was hit by a pitch. Two batters later, Harrington hit a rbi single, then Tablazon ripped a two-rbi double, making it, 8-3.
In the top of the fifth, Memarian reached on an error, and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Three batters later, Preston Lau delivered a rbi single, scoring Memarian, making it 8-4, in favor of Fremont.
In the bottom of the sixth, Fremont put it’s second two-out rally together. Harrington drew a walk, then stole second and third. Tablazon brought in Harrington with a single, and Contacos smacked a rbi double, scoring Tablazon, putting Fremont up, 10-4.
Oahe scored it’s final runs in the top of the eighth. Lasater reached on an error and Mix drew a walk. Both runners advanced to second and third on a wild pitch. Then, Lasater and Mix would move up, once more, on a passed ball, scoring Lasater, making it 10-5. Three batters later, Mix scored on a ground out by Cy Probst, making it 10-6.
In the top of the ninth, Fremont reliever Cooper Mollet walked the leadoff batter of the inning, Jarred Heck, who then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Mollet settled in, however, striking out Joey Coolbaugh, looking, Lau swinging, and Lasater looking, to end the game.
Fremont starter Cooper Petersen (1-0) pitched six innings. The Tucson, Arizona native, at Midland University, gave up seven hits, four unearned runs, walked one, struck out two, had two wild pitches and hit one batter. Devin Fritzsch pitched two innings. The Elkhorn, Nebraska native, at Washburn University, gave up two unearned runs, walked three and struck out one. Cooper Mollet, pitched the ninth inning. The Edina, Minnesota native at Northern Iowa Area Community College, walked one, struck out three and had one wild pitch.
Oahe starter Brady Glenn (0-2) pitched three innings, giving up nine hits, three earned runs, struck out two and hit one batter. Abel Anzuldua pitched five innings, giving up five hits, five earned runs, two walks, struck out two, had two wild pitches and hit one batter.
Offensively, Fremont’s Tyler Harrington went 2-for-3 with a rbi and three runs scored. Blake Tablazon was 3-for-4 with three rbi’s and two runs scored. Sammy Contacos was 3-for-4 with two rbi’s and two runs scored and Tyler Hummel was 2-for-4 with a rbi.
The Zap’s Trevor Seagraves was 3-for-4.
More Information: The series sweep of the Zap by the Moo was Fremont’s third series sweep of an opponent, this season. With the win, Fremont equaled it’s largest win streak of the year, at four games. With the win, and Badlands’ double-header with Casper rained out, Fremont extended it’s lead over the Big Sticks by one full game, in the Independence League Baseball Association standings.
