Local farmers Jim and Calleen Darnell of JD Farms recently directed a $5,000 Bayer Fund America’s Farmers Grow Communities donation to the Scottsbluff FFA.

The FFA group will use the funds to provide continued leadership skill development for the members of the Scottsbluff FFA Chapter. Chapter members and officers will be able to attend the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Ind., in October to meet with other FFA members from across the nation and participate in leadership and career development workshops. Scottsbluff FFA members will also interact with a multitude of Agricultural businesses and colleges to help prepare them for a career in Agriculture.

“With this generous contribution to the Scottsbluff FFA, it decreases the requirement for students to depend on the local communities for fundraising. This is vitally important as we continue to see an increase in student organizations and activities, which also must fundraise, placing a great burden on the community members. The chapter cannot thank JD Farms, Jim and Calleen Darnell, as well as Bayer enough for this generous contribution,” said Alan Held, Scottsbluff FFA advisor.

In 2022, Bayer Fund revamped America’s Farmers Grow Communities program, making it easier for farmers across the country to find and fund the organizations and institutions that keep their communities thriving.

“Each year we hear from several nonprofit and school leaders, as well as farmers, about the ways Grow Communities has made a difference,” said Al Mitchell, Bayer Fund president. “Bayer Fund is proud to work side-by-side with farmers to identify local nonprofit organizations and schools that are improving rural communities in the areas of health and wellness, food and nutrition, and STEM and ag education.”

Farmers can enroll for the opportunity to direct a 2023 Grow Communities donation starting on Aug. 1. To learn more about the enrollment process, visit www.Americasfarmers.com.
