Full-Time Coach, Part-Time Cowboy: John Cook, Nebraska Volleyball Head Coach on Breaking the Barrier

One regret Nebraska Volleyball Head Coach John Cook will never have is that he “should’ve been a cowboy.”

Coach Cook has taken the Nebraska Volleyball program to the pinnacle of success with four national championships, three runner-up titles, and 10 national semifinal appearances and is no stranger to competition.

Though his domain is the volleyball court, these days he can be found sporting his Wranglers with a rope in hand.

That’s right, the famed volleyball coach has found his way to the rodeo arena.

His newfound hobby has gained traction, and his horse, Bud, is even listed as a volunteer coach on Huskers.com. He says entering the horse world has helped him connect with greater Nebraska and has even helped him in his recruiting efforts.

“Riding horses is making me a better coach,” Cook said.

Listen as host Rebel Sjeklocha learns more about Coach Cook’s new hobby and his two horses, Bud and Reba in this week’s episode of Breaking the Barrier.
