Washington, D.C. — Behind a combined 41 points from sophomores Lauren Jensen and Emma Ronsiek, the Creighton women’s basketball team outlasted the Georgetown Hoyas 80-70 on Friday, January 21. The Bluejays did not trail in a game that was played without fans.

The win lifted the Bluejays to 14-4 on the season and 9-1 in BIG EAST action, while Georgetown fell to 6-7 overall and 1-4 in conference play.

The Bluejays opened the game with a quick 7-2 burst, getting a pair of layups from junior Carly Bachelor and a three-ball from senior Payton Brotzki. Treys from Jensen and sophomore Molly Mogensen as well as a layup by Ronsiek helped Creighton push its lead to 15-8 with 5:07 left in the first quarter, but an 8-0 Georgetown run knotted the game at 15-15 (1:51). Jensen closed the opening frame with five straight points to send Creighton to the second up 20-15.

A slow start to the second quarter saw the Hoyas pull within one bucket at 22-20 (6:50), but a pair of trifecta from Ronsiek and a big-to-big layup from Ronsiek to sophomore Morgan Maly pushed Creighton’s advantage out to double figures at 30-20 (5:14). Holding a 35-28 edge with under one minute remaining in the half, the Bluejays got two free throws from senior Tatum Rembao, following by a driving layup by the Colorado native with four seconds remaining and a three-point play opportunity. Rembao misfired on the free throw, but senior Rachael Saunders grabbed the rebound and finished the half with a put back to make it 41-28 at the break.

A trio of three-pointers from Jensen in the third pushed Creighton out to a 22-point lead at 56-34 (5:04), allowing CU to coast into the final frame with a 63-49 lead. Creighton maintained its double-digit lead throughout all but one possession of the final period to earn the 80-70 victory.

Jensen led all scorers with 22 points, while Ronsiek posted 19 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Carly Bachelor also finished in double-figures with 12 points.

Georgetown got 18 points from Kelsey Ransom to lead the way, while Graceann Bennett has 14 points. Milan Bolden Morris and Shanniah Wright closed the contest with 12 and 10 points respectively.

Creighton concludes its three-game road week at Villanova on Sunday, Jan. 23 with a 12:00 pm (CT) tip.
