Providence, R.I. — Led by 20 points and seven rebounds from junior Emma Ronsiek (Sioux Falls, S.D.), the Creighton Women’s Basketball team posted a 64-46 win at Providence on January 24.

The win lifted the Bluejays to 13-6 overall and 7-4 in BIG EAST action, while Providence fell to 12-10 on the season and 3-8 in conference play.

Ronsiek steadied Creighton offense in the first half, scoring 14 of the Bluejays 23 points in the opening 20 minutes to help Creighton hold a 23-20 edge heading into the locker room. While Ronsiek handled the scoring load, Creighton’s defense stood tall throughout the first half. The Bluejays held Providence to 3-of-13 (23.1%) in the first quarter and forced eight turnovers in the first half.

Leading 23-22 early in the third quarter, the Bluejays reasserted themselves with a 7-0 run as junior Morgan Maly (Crete, Neb.) connected from beyond the arc, followed by interior buckets by Ronsiekf and Maly to give Creighton a 30-22 lead (7:52). The Bluejays pushed their advantage to double-digits late in the frame on back-to-back treys from Maly and senior Rachael Saunders (Iowa City, Iowa) to claim a 45-33 lead with 1:42 remaining in the third.

The Creighton edge ballooned to as much as 20 points at 60-40 (5;53) on consecutive buckets from junior Lauren Jensen (Lakeville, Minn.) to put the game away.

Ronsiek led all scorers with 20 points, while Maly and Jensen finished with 13 and 12 points respectively.

Providence got 12 points from Grace Efosa in the loss.

Creighton returns to the hardwood on Saturday, January 28 at Georgetown, with a 12:00 p.m. tip.
