OMAHA, Neb. — Despite a pair of 3-0 victories to clinch a 10th straight BIG EAST regular-season title, Creighton Volleyball team fell two spots to 17th in the AVCA/TARAFLEX Top 25 poll released on Monday. The Bluejays also fell one spot to 12th in the NCAA’s seventh official RPI release of the fall, after spending the previous two weeks in 11th.
Creighton (25-4, 16-2 BIG EAST) has lost just one set in its last 13 matches and hit .358 in that span while outscoring foes 1,002-661. Just three of CU’s last 12 opponents have scored more than 21 points in any set.
The Bluejays are one of 15 schools (along with Baylor, BYU, Florida, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Louisville, Nebraska, Oregon, Penn State, Pitt, Purdue, Stanford, Texas and Wisconsin) to have been ranked each of the last 44 polls. Creighton has been ranked in all but six of the past 113 weeks the AVCA has put out a Top 25 poll and 121 times in program history, which is 38th-most among all programs all-time. Creighton is 197-44 all-time when playing as a ranked team in the AVCA poll.
CU’s all-time best ranking in program history is No. 7, which came in the poll released on Aug. 28, 2017, and its best ranking this fall has been No. 11 on Sept. 18th. This is the 12th straight season that Creighton has spent at least one week in the top-25, extending another program record.
Unbeaten Nebraska remained in the top spot and is followed in the top-five by Stanford, Pittsburgh, Texas and Wisconsin..
Creighton will be the No. 1 seed at this week’s BIG EAST Tournament, hosted by Marquette, and begin play on Friday at 3 p.m. against the winner of Wednesday’s DePaul/Xavier quarterfinal.
