The Central Community College men’s basketball team lost both games at the Southeast Community College Holiday Classic on Saturday and Sunday in Beatrice. A recap of both games is below. The Raiders are 8-4 and will host North Platte Community College on Wednesday night. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. at the Raider Fieldhouse.

Game 1: CCC vs. Highland (Kan.) Community College

A pair of free throws with less than a second remaining lifted the Scotties to a 60-57 win over the Raiders. A few moments earlier, CCC was down by one when a costly turnover occurred, and Highland moved ahead by the final three-point margin. Central led 32-27 at the half and were leading 55-48 in the second half when the Scotties made their move.

Dwight Glover Jr. led the Raiders with a dozen points while Kevin Cook finished with 10 points.

“We had a few chances to extend our lead late in the game, but they hit a few big shots and we didn’t value the basketball and had some costly turnovers down the stretch,” said CCC head coach John Ritzdorf. “We didn’t play very well offensively and part of that is Highland is a very good defensive team.”

Game 2: CCC vs. Allen County (Kan.) Community College

The Raiders were leading, 66-65 when the Red Devils got an offensive rebound and put-back basket with one second remaining to record a 67-66 victory. Glover again led CCC, this time with 17 points. Jayden Byabato scored 10 points off the bench.

“We didn’t execute well offensively down the stretch and you can’t allow a talented team like Allen County to get extra possessions like we did,” said Ritzdorf. “We have a really good team, but we have to get back to making clutch plays like we were making early in the season.”
