CCC Men fall at North Platte

The Central Community College men’s basketball team lost at North Platte Community College, 89-84, on Tuesday night.

North Platte took an early 14-8 over the first eight minutes of the contest before CCC scored six unanswered points to tie the game. The Raiders closed the first half with a 12-2 run to pull to within three at the break, 44-41.

In the second half, the Raiders took the lead momentarily before the Knights regained the lead and built a double-digit advantage. However, CCC kept at it and trimmed North Platte’s lead down to 81-78 with 1:20 to play. The Knights were able to keep the Raiders at bay with a pair of crucial field goals and perfection at the free throw line to post the five-point victory.

Trey Deveaux led four CCC players in double figures with 29 points. Jayden Byabato scored 15 points while Derek Merwick tallied 14 points. Blake Daberkow finished with 13 points.

The loss is the second straight for the Raiders and gives them a season mark of 9-5.

The Raiders will take an extended holiday break and resume play on Wednesday, Jan. 11, when they host Concordia University JV at 7:30 p.m.
