CCC is now 7-8 on the season and will return to action on Monday at Cloud County (Kan.) Community College. The Raiders and the T-Birds will get underway at 6:30 p.m.

Match 1 vs. Highland (Kan.) Community College

The Scotties outlasted the Raiders in five sets to take the opening round victory. Highland won the first set, 25-17, followed by a CCC win in the second set, 25-22. The Scotties took the third set, 25-13, while the Raiders took the fourth set, 25-21. Highland won the match with a 15-11 triumph in the fifth set.

Emily Otten and Josie Richards each tallied 13 kills, while Kamryn Chohon dished out 45 assists. Chloe Odbert recorded 23 digs.

Match 2 vs. Kansas City Kansas Community College

The host Blue Devils defeated the Raiders, 3-1, in the opening day nightcap. KCKCC won the first two sets, 25-14 and 25-18. Central avoided the shut out with a 25-22 victory in the third set before the Blue Devils claimed the match with a 25-18 win in the fourth set.

Richards led the Raiders with nine kills, while Chohon totaled 27 assists. Odbert finished with 20 digs.

“We lost a heartbreaker to Highland and definitely had chances to earn the win and then had to face KCKCC right away,” said CCC head coach Mary Young. “It was a tough schedule but a great opportunity to improve and I can’t say enough about our fight in day one.”

Match 3 vs. Cowley (Kan.) College

The Tigers shut out the Raiders, 3-0, to open second-day action. The final scores were 25-10, 25-15 and 25-15.

Ashley Brown and Richards each made four kills to lead the Raiders, while Chohon totaled 14 assists. Odbert made eight digs.

“We played flat against Cowley and even playing flat, and without Emily Otten due to injury, I thought we still competed,” said Young. “The scores don’t really show that we tested Cowley at times. We just need to be more consistent in testing teams the entire match.”

Match 4 vs. Johnson County (Kan.) Community College

The Cavaliers shut out the Raiders, 3-0. The final scores read 25-12, 25-20 and 25-21.

Brown and Rachel Otten each logged seven kills, while Chohon finished with 29 assists. Odbert tallied 16 digs.

“This was a quality tournament for us as we faced the #13, #2 and #3 teams and a quality KCKCC team,” said Young. “We competed hard and with that type of competition, even with losses, we grew and improved a great deal. We are working to improve and intend to be playing our best in late October.”
