SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Briar Cliff University volleyball team (0-2 GPAC, 6-8) lost 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-19) to Dordt (2-0 GPAC, 8-4), Wednesday night at the Newman Flanagan Center.
In the first set, Dordt jumped out early 5-1. Down 13-8, Briar Cliff began to charge back. Freshman Aubrey Hoeft stuffed the hitter to make it 16-16.
That ended an 8-3 run. The Defenders went up 20-17 only to see the Chargers make another run.
BCU forced an error to close to 22-21. Dordt took the next three points to end the set.
In the second set, everything was falling for Briar Cliff. Junior Isabelle Lenz made a beautiful kill to put the Chargers up 16-11.
The Defenders then reeled off an 11-1 run to effectively end the set.
In the third set, Dorst was on cruise control with a 19-10 lead. BCU refused to quit and came storming back.
Briar Cliff’s blockers forced a hitting error to cut the gap to 22-18. The Defenders held on to finish the match.
For Briar Cliff, Hoeft had a solo block and four assists to finish with five total blocks. Junior Avery Beller had 14 digs, her 15th straight double-digit match.
For Dordt, Tarren Spartz had 13 kills and Madison Vis had 15 digs.
Briar Cliff stays home, Saturday, Sept. 14 taking on Dakota Wesleyan. The match is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m.
