Offensive struggles and turnovers for the Briar Cliff football team were too much to overcome, as the Chargers dropped a 61-21 contest against Concordia Saturday.

An interception from Brayden Pommier-Williams in the second quarter setup the Chargers in the red zone for the first time. On third and three from the 13-yard line, Luke Davies found tight end Kreggor Clark in the corner of the end zone for a Charger touchdown.

Cornerback Mike Green gave the Cliff their second score of the day, intercepting Wyatt Ehlers at the Concordia 32-yard line, returning it for a touchdown. Freshman Tim Brown showcased his explosiveness in the return game, taking a kick-off 93 yards for a BC touchdown in the fourth quarter.

The Bulldog defense forced five Charger turnovers with four fumble recoveries and one interception. Concordia was able to capitalize on the Blue and Gold’s mistakes, scoring four touchdowns on the ensuing drives.

“We deserved to get beat by a quality opponent today,” said head coach Shane LaDage. “We didn’t take care of the football and had too many penalties. All things that we are in control of.”

Davies completed 14 of his 21 pass attempts for 145 yards with one touchdown. His longest completion of the day went to Aaron Okoro for 46 yards. Okoro went up and over the Bulldog defender to make the catch. Asante Anglin was the most productive rusher out of the backfield with 57 yards on 15 carries. Spencer Slyvester George recorded three receptions for 40 yards.

Brett Tinker led the Charger defense with 10 tackles (five solo) and one tackle for a loss. Angel Nava-Esparza and MJ Montgomery both tallied nine tackles. Montgomery added 1.5 sacks and forced one fumble. Asi Tupua and Lakey Martin tallied one sack apiece.

Concordia out gained the Chargers 520-155, averaging 6.5 yards per play. Wyatt Ehlers and DJ McGarvie combined to throw for 354 passings yards. McGarvie completed seven of his eight attempts, throwing for four touchdowns. Korrell Koehlmoos grabbed seven receptions for 108 yards and one touchdown.

Briar Cliff will have a bye next weekend, before traveling to Yankton, South Dakota to face off against Mount Marty. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m. between the Chargers and Lancers.
