Vera E. Longe, age 84, of Wayne passed away Thursday, March 9, 2023 at Wayne Countryview Care. Funeral services will be at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Wayne Wednesday 11:00 a.m. Visitation at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Wayne Tuesday 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Interment Wakefield Cemetery, Wakefield, NE. Memorials may be directed to the Longe family for later designation. Arrangements with Hasemann Funeral Home of Wayne.
Vera Elaine (Schopke) Longe was born October 31,1938 to Walter and Helen (Luesebrink) Schopke of Emerson. She passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2023 at Wayne Countryview after struggling with the hardships of Alzheimer’s Disease. Vera was a wife to Richard, mother to Karen, Russell and Carol, grandma to Lucas, Emily, Kate, Reagan and Kinnley. Vera was known for her kindness and strong work ethic.
Vera grew up on a farm in Emerson, NE and graduated from Emerson High School. She attended Edwards Business School in Sioux City, IA and worked in Sioux City until marrying Richard (Dick) on December 4, 1964. They moved to Wayne, NE in 1965 and raised their family while farming.
Vera was a dedicated, hard working farm wife and mother. She could be found in her kitchen preparing a meal from scratch, gardening, canning, sewing, helping in the field and tending to the livestock. Vera was very active in the community. She taught Sunday School at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and was involved in many committees at Our Savior Lutheran Church. Vera was a 4-H leader and loved to sew. She was an accomplished seamstress and enthusiastic quilter. Vera enjoyed participating in neighborhood card and coffee clubs. She was an avid birdwatcher and loved to dance and swim. Vera was a frequent blood donor and recycled before it was a common practice. Dedicated to her family, Vera was always available to help and support on a moment’s notice.
Vera will be deeply missed by many including her three children and five grandchildren. Daughter, Karen Longe (Mark Hill), Wayne, they have one daughter Kate Hill; son, Russell and Becky (Pospishil) Longe, Wakefield, they have a son, Lucas (fiancee Grace Lindsay) Wayne and a daughter, Emily, Lincoln; daughter, Carol (Chris) McGuire, Wayne, they have two daughters, Reagan and Kinnley.
Vera is preceded in death by her parents Walter and Helen (Luesebrink) Schopke; husband Richard in 2017; one sister, Doris Jean and one brother, Harlan.
