Rodney L. “Slinger” Schlichting, age 74, of Kingwood, Texas

Rodney L. “Slinger” Schlichting, age 74, of Kingwood, Texas passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at his home in Kingwood, Texas. A Celebration of Life and Memorial Visitation will be held on Monday, June 14th, at the Darst Funeral Home, in Kingwood, Texas. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. with the service to start at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at 12:45 p.m. at Houston National Cemetery. Darst Funeral Home in Kingwood, Texas is in charge of arrangements.

Rod was born on Dec 15th, 1946 in Omaha , NE. He was raised on the family farm near Craig, NE .  He attended elementary school at District 51,  graduated from Oakland High school and attended Wayne State college. Rod joined the Air Force in 1967  and trained as an aircraft mechanic, rose to the rank of E4 Sergeant. Rod was honorably discharged in 1971.  After the Air Force, he attended the Teterboro School of Aeronautics. He worked at various airlines until he joined Continental Airlines in 1983 and retired in May of 2007.

Rod enjoyed spending time with his many friends and for years was on the Swine-o’s  BBQ team out of Spring, TX. He started a beef jerky making business and his customers loved his “jerkey sticks”.  Rod loved motorcycles, beer and his dog Buddy. He enjoyed riding and traveling throughout the country, was always ready for a good time and never met a stranger.

Rod was proceeded in death by his parents Arthur and Adella Schlichting of rural Craig, NE.

He is survived  by his wife Mira;  sons, Ian Schlichting ( fiancée Samantha Lipscomb) of Clarksburg, WV,  Paul Davis of Pahos, HI, stepson Nicholas Gill of Kingwood, TX; sister Dianne Schlichting of Omaha, NE; brothers Arthur Schlichting (Janice) of Omaha, NE and Ronnie Schlichting of Craig, NE. Grandsons Nikoli and Darion Schlichting of Clarksburg, WV; several nephews and nieces and his beloved dog Buddy.
