Mary Frances (Paine) Bacon was born to Morris and Anna (Sears) Paine on August 8, 1945, at the Clyde Sears Home in Lyons, Nebraska. She passed away November 11, 2023, at her home in rural Lyons.
“Fran” attended grade school in Lyons and graduated from Lyons High School in 1963. She furthered her education at Nebraska Methodist School of Nursing in Omaha graduating in 1966. She married Randall Bacon May 14,1966 prior to graduation. The couple moved to Lincoln where she started her nursing career at Bryan Memorial Hospital working in the intensive care unit, coronary care unit and later became head nurse of these departments. She worked in Lincoln for 3 years and then moved to Lyons where two children Stacie and Ryan were born. She was employed at Oakland Memorial Hospital and as a school nurse in Lyons and Decatur school systems. She served on the State of Nebraska Quality Improvement Board and Elkhorn Logan Valley Department of Health Board. She retired from nursing after 41 years.
“Fran” loved music and played the organ for many years at both Memorial United Methodist Church and Bethany Lutheran Church in Lyons, as well as several weddings and funerals. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, baking, reading, gardening, and loved to play cards and slot machines. She especially enjoyed their home in Bullhead City, Arizona where they entertained many friends and relatives during the winter months, and it was also less than ten minutes away from her favorite casino. Still her greatest pride and joy were her children, grandchildren, and great grandson.
She was always amazed how they could keep her and Randy’s 50th wedding anniversary a secret right up to the celebration day.
She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Kenneth Paine, James Paine, and Johnny Paine; father-in-law, Donald Bacon and brother-in-law, Doyle Huffman.
Survivors include her husband, Randy; daughter and son-in-law, Stacie (Corey) Petersen of Lyons; son and daughter-in-law, Ryan (Stacy) Bacon of Bancroft; six grandchildren: Brittney (Mike) Creekmore, Mickayla (Marcus) Hegy, Derek Petersen (girlfriend Brooklyn), Kelcee, Kinlee, and Kole Bacon; one great grandson, Fletcher Hegy; sister-in-law, Kay Paine; mother-in-law, Betty Bacon; two sisters-in-law, Cheryl Huffman and Marjean (Wayne) Hightree; one brother-in-law, Don (Bev) Bacon; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
