Marjean K. (Fuller) Sargent, age 74, of Hastings, IA passed away on Tuesday, October 12, 2021, at a Council Bluffs, IA hospital.  The visitation will be 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Monday, October 18, 2021, at the United Methodist Church (201 E. 5th St.) in Malvern, IA.  The graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in rural Bancroft, NE; with Father Paul Ortmeier officiating.  Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation.  Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Bancroft, NE.

Marjean was born on October 12, 1947, in Oakland, NE to Elwin and Zepha (Kessinger) Fuller.  She attended and graduated from Bancroft High School in 1965.  After graduation, she worked at Franco’s Benson Hair Affair in Omaha until she started her own salon in Omaha.  On September 23, 1967, Marjean married Preston Sargent at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Bancroft, NE.  To this union, the couple had one son, Shannon.

After her retirement in 1989, Marjean worked as a reporter for the Malvern Leader and served on the City Council.

Marjean allowed her lifelong “hobby” of quilting and studying quilts become an obsession.  She was well known for her quilting knowledge; she was featured in books and magazines across the country.  Marjean traveled to speak at quilting conventions and was an instructor that enjoyed teaching the history of quilts.   She was a member of the Omaha and Nebraska Quilting Guild.  In her spare time, Marjean and Preston loved to travel all over the United States and internationally.  She also enjoyed coaching the girl’s youth soccer league for a few seasons.

Marjean is survived by her husband, Preston Sargent of Hastings, IA; son, Shannon (Niki) Sargent of Virginia Beach, VA; two grandsons, Andrew Sargent, and Timothy Sargent; one great-grandson, Lochlin Sargent; and a niece, Jenna Fuller.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brother Jim Fuller; and infant granddaughter, Anna June Sargent.
