At an arraignment in Dawson County District Court Friday morning, 23-year-old Sierra L. Reicks of Lexington pled not guilty to felony charges of child abuse. The abuse of her child is alleged to have occurred in May 2023 according to the court citation. Count I alleges Child Abuse Causing Serious Injury. Count II alleges Intentional Child Abuse with No Injury. Each charge carries a penalty of up to 3 years imprisonment, a $10,000 fine or both. Following incarceration, 9 to 18 months of Post Release Supervision could also be ordered.

The case stems from a May 20th investigation by officers of the Lexington Police Department. An affidavit in the investigation indicates they were called to Lexington Regional Health Center on a report of a 9-month-old child that appeared to have been abused. The child was life-flighted to Omaha Children’s Hospital because of brain bleed.

After entering her not guilty pleas in Dawson County District Court Friday morning, District Judge Mark Young set a jury trial for Reicks on January 9, 2024 at 9:00am. A pre-trial hearing was also set for December 15, 2023 at 9:00am. Reicks continues to be released on her own recognizance with a condition to have no contact with the victim unless under the supervision of the Department of Health and Human Services.
