North Platte, Neb. — A van driver who says he misjudged the speed of his vehicle and a semi that was merging onto Interstate-80 is still alive to talk about it, but the van he was driving was totaled. The van driver was westbound on I-80 Friday, at approximately 6:56 p.m., a few miles west of North Platte, when he came upon a semi that had stopped on the north shoulder of I-80, but was re-entering the westbound driving lane and was accelerating. The van impacted the rear of the semi, with such force that it nearly peeled the metal skin off the van. The van driver received little or no injuries. The van was totaled.
