UNK Excels at Midwest Duals

Kearney, Neb. – The now third-ranked Nebraska-Kearney wrestling team breezed through the 2022 Midwest Duals, blasting junior college power Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, No. 21 Colorado School of Mines and Western Colorado.

The Lopers improve to 7-3 in duals and bounce back in a big way from a close setback to NAIA power Grand View (Ia.) last Saturday. At the Buffalo County Fairgrounds, UNK downed NEO 43-3, beat the Oreddigers 38-3 and got past the Mountaineers 32-12. The day included five falls, five tech falls, four majors and two forfeits.

Redshirt junior Austin Eldredge (McPherson, Kan.), ranked 5th nationally at 184 pounds, is now at 174 pounds and he recorded tech falls by scores of 20-3, 20-2, and 16-0. Northern Colorado transfer and Omaha Skutt grad Billy Higgins is at 184 pounds and his day included a 15-0 tech and a 52 second fall.

Next, 11th-ranked Nick James (Kearney H.S.) got past 10th-ranked Dean Noble of WCU, 15-9, after a 13-0 major against Mines. Finally, now 11th-ranked Hayden Prince (Goose Creek, SC) went 3-0 as well, out scoring the competition 32-13. UNK heads to Central Missouri next Thursday.
