Train-Semi crash in Dundy County leaves one dead, one injured

Dundy County, Neb. — A collision near Highway 34 between a train and a semi in Dundy County on Tuesday left one person dead and another injured.

Dundy County Communications received a report of a train and semi crash near Highway 34 and mile marker 2 at 2:45 p.m. The Dundy County Sheriff’s Office said the two occupants of the semi were ejected and transported to Wray Colorado Hospital for treatment.

The Sheriff’s Office says, the male semi driver, a Wyoming resident, was then flown out to another hospital for further care. The male passenger, also a resident of Wyoming, was pronounced dead at the hospital

The Sheriff’s Office says preliminary investigation shows that the semi was attempting to cross the tracks ahead of the BNSF trains’ arrival to the crossing.

The Dundy County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Haigler Fire Department, Benkelman Fire Department, Red Willow Western Fire Department, Benkelman EMS, Wray EMS, the Dundy County Roads Superintendent and the Dundy County Clerk.

The Sheriff’s Office says it’s an ongoing investigation.
