Thorell had many achievements as an athlete at Loomis. He was all state in both football and basketball in 1963. Thorell also was a star in track and field as he set a state record in the long jump that stood for 10 years and he tied the state hurdles record. He also topped the state charts in the hop, step and jump for three years. He would go on to play for coach Bob Devaney at Nebraska when he was just beginning to build the Husker program in the early to mid 60’s. Thorell would go on to become a two time letterwinner for the Huskers as a defensive back. After a stint serving our country in Vietnam Thorell would have a long coaching and teaching career at Lexington high school. This year’s induction ceremony is set for Sept. 26 at Lincoln East High school.
