BERTRAND- Bertrand played host to Overton on Saturday and the Eagles would come in and take both games. The girls won in convincing fashion 55-30 while the boys won a tight game 41-37.

In the girls matchup, the first half would be a back and forth defensive battle, but Overton would turn the tide and dominate in the second half. Sophomores JoLee Ryan and Natalie Wood made up 22 of the Eagles 25 total first half points to help them hold onto a ten point 25-15 lead at the break. Bertrand would struggle to keep up with Overton in the second half, being outscored 30-15 after keeping it pretty close in the first half. Ryan would add another 12 points in the second half to help her team pull away and secure the road win. Ryan led her team in scoring with 24 total points and Senior Kenzy Drain led Bertrand in scoring with 12 points.

The boys game would be a close defensive matchup throughout. The first quarter featured 14 total points, seven by each team, and Overton only outscored Bertrand by one in the second quarter to help them out to a one point lead at the break. No player had more than six points at halftime. The second half did not feature any more scoring, but it saw more back and forth play. Both teams were going punch for punch and eventually it came down to 31 seconds on the clock, tied at 37. Sophomore Braeden Fleischman took the ball himself all the way to the bucket to give Overton a 39-37 lead with 25 seconds remaining. Junior Owen Kaps missed a three with two seconds remaining for Bertrand, Senior Wyatt Ryan knocked down two free throws, and Overton would escape Bertrand with a victory. Ryan and Senior Caleb Svarvari led the Eagles in scoring with 11 points each, while Freshman Marcus Hernandez led Bertrand in scoring with nine points.

Overton will head back home to take on Hi-Line in their next game on January 18th while Bertrand will travel to Maywood on January 20th for their next contest.
