For a third straight trip to the NSAA state soccer tournament, the Lexington Minutemen advanced to the Class B semifinals as they beat Northwest 4-1 on Thursday afternoon. Lexington scored two goals almost back to back from senior Diego Martinez and head coach Joel Lemus says he play was key in the win.

Lexington added a third goal right before half from freshman Edin Lima. In the second half, Lexington scored once as Alex Perez found the back on the net. Lemus says winning the first one is a relief.

The match was stopped for several minutes as Northwest Goal Keeper Zeke Koenig was injured in the first half and eventually was transferred to the hospital. Late reports on Thursday night said he was resting and doing well. Lexington has now won 18 in a row and will face Bennington who blew out Mount Michael 7-1. In the other two matches, Skutt beat Elkhron North 3-1 and Waverly won in overtime over Scottsbluff 5-4. Lexington’s state semifinal match with Bennington is set for Saturday night at 7:30pm and can be heard on KAMI Country and krvn.com
