Lexington, Neb. — A man faces a felony charge of Attempted First-Degree Murder in connection with a knife attack in Lexington that seriously injured another man.

Eber Gamalier, believed to be in his early 20’s, appeared in Dawson County Court Wednesday to face the charges against him, which includes, Use of a Deadly Weapon to Commit a Felony. Gamalier is being held on 10% of $200,000 bond.

Eber Gamalier’s preliminary hearing was set for Aug. 1 at 11:00 a.m.

Police Officers responded Tuesday at 4 p.m. to a residence, where it was determined a 39-year-old man had been assaulted. Officers learned a suspect had fled the area on a bicycle and they subsequently received a physical description and first name of the suspect.

While Lexington Police were processing the scene and speaking with witnesses, the suspect, Eber Gamalier, was located and apprehended. He is being held in the Dawson County Jail.

The victim was transported to Lexington Regional Health Center by Lexington Volunteer Fire and Rescue with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

According to witnesses to the incident, the suspect had placed a knife to the throat of the victim and attempted to cut the victim’s throat. At the same time, the victim placed his hand in front of the knife, causing serious injuries to his hand.

Lexington Police Department says the incident remains an open investigation.

Court documents reveal that Eber Gamalier was arrested for DUI in October of 2023. A warrant seeking his arrest was issued after he failed to appear for a Nov. 16, 2023 hearing to enter a plea to DUI, Minor in Possession of Alcohol and Open Container.
