Lopers Move to Number One

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney volleyball team is ranked number one in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division II Top 25 poll.
 
The Lopers (8-0), who were third last week, are atop the poll for the 27th time. That ranks fourth most among current and former D2 schools. The last time UNK was ranked number one in the fall was the week of September 10, 2018.
 
Previous number one and nine-time national champ Concordia-St. Paul lost twice last week as did No. 2 Angelo (Texas) State. UNK went 4-0, sweeping St. Mary (Kan.), Chadron State, Southern Nazarene (Okla.) and previously unbeaten West Texas A&M.
 
Kearney tallied 1,082 points and 30 first place votes with Angelo (925; two first place) still second. Washburn (8-1) is third with 907 points and comes to the Health & Sports Center this Saturday at 6 p.m.
 
Besides the Lopers and Ichabods, nine other Central Region schools are in the Top 25 in Concordia (4th), Wayne State (5th), Central Missouri (7th), Southwest Minnesota State (8th), Winona State (10th), Northwest Missouri State (12th), Oklahoma Baptist (13th), Minnesota-Duluth (16th) and St. Cloud State (23rd).  Prior to the Washburn match the Lopers face Emporia State (2-5) Friday at 6 p.m.
