Lexington Soccer Has Huge Day

Lexington-For the first time in school history both the Lexington Minutemaids and Minutemen soccer teams will be headed to the Class B State tournament in Omaha next week. The girls beat Blair 2-0 thanks to two second half goals and another shutout from goal keeper Alyssa Winter. In the boys game, Lexington pulled away from Kearney Catholic 8-2. For the Minutemaids the win will continue the best season in the history of the program which was started in the late 1990’s. Lexington has now won a school record 10 straight matches and has a 14-4 mark on the season which is also a school record. The Minutemaids are the 7th seed in this year’s Class B NSAA tournament and will play 16-0 Norris on Friday morning at 10am. That match can be heard on KAMI Country and KRVN.com.

In the boys match, Lexington led from start to finish as they downed Kearney Catholic 8-2. Diego Martinez continued his strong run of play as he scored three times for Lexington. The second ranked Minutemen are a school record 18-1 and have won 16 in a row. This is the 12th time Lexington has qualified for state. Lexington is the second seed in the NSAA Class B tournament and will play South Sioux City on Thursday morning at 10am at Morrison Stadium in Omaha.
