Kearney, Neb. — Kearney Police Department will join law enforcement agencies across the nation April 8-12, to remind drivers about the dangers and consequences of texting and distracted driving.

It’s part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) U Drive. U Text. U Pay. It’s a high visibility enforcement campaign that centers on aiding law enforcement officers in their efforts to keep texting and distracted drivers off the road.

According to NHTSA, between 2012 and 2019, 26,004 people died in crashes involving a distracted driver.

Kearney Police Department and NHTSA urge drivers to put their phones away when behind the wheel. They say, if you need to text, pull over and do not drive while doing so.
