COZAD – Completing an undefeated regular season, Kearney Catholic led from start to finish Friday night, beating Cozad 49-13.

Scoring on all but two drives, the Stars dominated on both sides of the football, holding the Haymakers scoreless until late in the fourth quarter and totaling nearly 500 yards of offense.

Stars quarterback Brett Mahony guided the offense to their first touchdown on their first drive, scoring on an eight yard strike to Jaden Seier. Mahony would throw two more touchdowns, a seven yard pass to Seier and a 28 yard pass to Max McBride. Running back, Riley Grieser scored three times from four yards, 14 yards and eight yards. Backup quarterback, Carson Murphy would also toss a 50 yard touchdown to Isiah Gaunt. The Kearney Catholic defense would also grab two interceptions, both in the second quarter. Garret Schmaderer and Murphy came away with the picks.

Cozad didn’t complete a first down until the second quarter and struggled to move the ball most of the night. Going to an aerial attack, Nolan Wetovick found some success, but would throw the two interceptions in his final night playing for the Haymakers. His tailback, Jacob Weatherly found the endzone to start the fourth quarter on an eight yard run. Backup quarterback, Noah Shoemaker would score the final Haymaker touchdown on a one yard run in the final minutes of the game. Cozad did force one turnover, a fumble by Mahony. Zack Gengenbach recovered the loose ball.

The Haymakers completed the season on a four game losing streak and finish with a 5-4 record. Kearney Catholic completed an undefeated season, 9-0. Listen to the game below.
