KAAPA Ethanol’s Weekly Crop Progress Report: May 23rd, 2022

This weeks report came with good news. The good news was expected but it was good news none the less. Producers across the corn belt continue to battle weather conditions both dry and wet to get the seed in the ground and they have finally caught up pretty much across the board.

CORN

PLANTED

The trend of states being behind but rapidly catching up with their 5 year averages continued into this weeks report. The 3 big I corn states all are within 4 percent of their 5 year average which puts them in a pretty good spot.

Nebraska’s efforts to catch up also where noted as the state jumped from 65 percent planted to 85 percent planted with 88 percent being the goal as the 5 year average.

Kansas is also caught up with 76 percent in the ground being right on pace with the average.

The Country as a whole is at 72 percent. 79 percent is the average. That is a huge leap compared to last week only being at 49 percent planted which is a very impressive jump when also considering the large leap the number took the previous week as well.

EMERGED

Emerged corn is still behind slightly across the country but that was expected due to the planting delays.

Currently 39 percent of the countries corn is reported to have emerged with 51 percent being the average.

Nebraska’s numbers specifically are at 48 percent emerged with 56 percent being the 5 year average. That is a substantial jump from last weeks report.

Kansas reports 46 percent emerged with the goal of 53 percent.

SOYBEANS

PLANTED

Soybean planting is slightly behind to on pace across the nation.

Nebraska is ahead of the 5 year average at 72 percent. The 5 year average is 69 percent

Kansas is ahead as well quite substantially with 49 percent planted as opposed to 40 percent on the average.

EMERGED

Soybean Emergence nationally is slightly behind, with 21 percent emerged compared to 26 percent on the average.

Nebraska sits at 27 percent emerged 3 percent behind

Kansas is at 24 percent emerged 4 percent ahead.

SORGHUM

PLANTED

Sorghum planting is slightly behind nationally at 33 percent with a goal of 35 percent to match the 5 year average.

Sorghum planting is behind in Nebraska by 7 percent with 24 percent of the crop being reported as planted.

Kansas is slightly ahead with 11 percent planted as opposed to 9 percent in the ground.

WINTER WHEAT

HEADED

Headed winter wheat nationally is at 63 percent headed. 65 percent is the 5 year average.

Kansas is ahead with 86 percent headed instead of the 80 percent 5 year average.

Nebraska is on pace with the average at 27 percent headed.

CONDITION

Winter wheat numbers continue to looks less than ideal. The national number was at 27 percent Good/Excellent last week and is at 28 percent Good/Excellent this week.

Nebraska is at 31 percent Good/ Excellent. Kansas sits at 25 percent.

MOISTURE

TOPSOIL

Nebraska declined in the top soil statistics going from 63 to 57 percent Adequate/Surplus.

Kansas remained at 49 percent Adequate/Surplus.

SUBSOIL

Nebraska and Kansas both remained rather stead on subsoil moisture with Nebraska remaining stead at 40 percent and Kansas improving 1 percentage to 41 percent Adequate/Surplus.
