MILWAUKEE-In the opening moments of the 2024 Republican National Convention on Monday, Donald Trump announced via Truth Social that Ohio US Senator J.D. Vance would be his Vice Presidential Candidate.

Vance is a veteran of the Marine Corps, graduate from both Ohio State University and Yale Law School, and is an author with his memoir Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis being his most well known work.

The 39-year-old Vance is currently serving in his first term as a member of the US Senate for his home state of Ohio.

Prior to his time in the political sphere he spent time working as a corporate lawyer and a venture capitalist in the tech industry.

His political career began in 2016 where he was dubbed “The Voice of the Rust Belt” by the Washington Post after his book Hillbilly Elegy found the top of The New York Time’s Best Seller list. Vance’s memoir was adapted into film that was released in 2020 and was directed by Ron Howard starring Glenn Close and Amy Adams among others.

He announced he would be running for Senate in the state of Ohio in July of 2021 and defeated Democratic nominee and incumbent Tim Ryan in the primary election.

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine approved of the former presidents Vice President selection.

“President Trump has made a great choice and Senator Vance will be a great partner as they campaign together this fall,”

DeWine will need to appoint a replacement with the nomination of Senator Vance.

Trump has also officially been given the nomination from the GOP for President after receiving the required votes during the opening roll call on Monday afternoon.
