Holdrege Wins in Extra Innings Over Gothenburg

Gothenburg-Matt Janssen’s Rbi groundout in the top of the 10th inning proved to be the difference as Farm Bureau of Holdrege downed Gothenburg on Thursday night 3-2. Clayton Bohr singled to start the inning for Holdrege and was replaced by pinch runner Josh Janssen who scored the game winning run. The game was a pitchers dual between Holdrege’s Cole Guthrie and Gothenburg’s Noah Shoemaker. Guthrie pitched a season high seven innings as he gave up seven hits just two runs and struck out two and walked one. He did an excellent job pitching out of trouble to give Holdrege a chance to win.

Shoemaker was dominate in making his first start of the year for the Melon seniors as he fanned 14 and went eight innings. He surrendered just three hits and one earned run. Gothenburg was led at the plate by Tra Rossell who had three hits and scored the Melons first run in the first. Nick Taylor earned the win for Holdrege going three innings as he struck out three and gave up just two hits. Farm Bureau is now 3-6 on the season while Gothenburg fell to 3-3. The Juniors game also went extra innings with Gothenburg winning 7-6 in eight innings.
