The First State Bank Seniors fell to 0-3 after a 20-3 loss to the Gothenburg Melons. Holdrege was unable to get much going at the plate on Tuesday night scoring those 3 runs on just 3 hits.

Holdrege made some strides in their pursuit to better fielding. Head coach Mike Waller had emphasized the importance of reducing the amount of errors his team had been committing. While Holdrege was relatively successful in accomplishing that, the main culprit behind Gothenburg’s offensive explosion on Tuesday was excellent baserunning coupled with the amount of walks Holdrege allowed.

Harrison Elliott provided a spark late in the game with a play for the highlight reel. He made a tremendous read off the bat and was able to cut off a hard grounder behind 2nd base. Elliott followed that up with an off-balance throw to Jeremiah Johnson to get the out at first base. This play, along with a stolen base and a run scored, earned him the Husker Irrigation Player of the Game.

First State Bank will try and bounce back on Thursday, June 3, as they visit Ravenna. The game will be broadcast on KUVR with pregame set for 7:50 p.m. and first pitch at 8 p.m. Listen on 96.9 FM, 1380 AM, and at KUVR.com
