MINDEN – The First State Bank Seniors’ 2021 season came to an end on Monday with a 9-5 loss to number one seed Minden First Bank in the B-6 area tournament. First State Bank of Holdrege held the lead through most of the contest before giving up 5 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Click here to listen to the broadcast.

Gabe Yochum started on the mound for the first time all year and treated Holdrege to a masterful performance. Yochum pitched 4.2 innings with no earned runs. It was a pleasant surprise for First State Bank; a team who struggled with pitching depth all season. Kaden Broeker had a typically strong outing at shortstop. He showcased his laserlike precision by throwing out a number of Minden baserunners at first base.

The Holdrege offense was led by Broeker, Dashton Edgren, and Tate Florell. Broeker and Edgren each registered an RBI with multiple hits and runs scored. Florell registered 2 RBIs in his strong effort at the plate.

Minden First Bank’s starter, Ben Edgecombe, pitched a complete game with nine strikeouts to only two walks. He was able to settle in after a shaky first inning where Holdrege jumped out to 3-0 lead. Brennan Runge paced the Minden batters with 3 RBIs and went 2-4 at the plate.

In the final game of the year for First State Bank, the team had a strong outing against one of the best teams in the area. They were led throughout the game by Dashton Edgren and Gabe Yochum. Their performances made it tough to choose the Green Landscapes Player of the Game, and both were awarded the title.

First State Bank finished the year with a 6-17 record, and advanced to the quarterfinals of the B-6 area tournament.
