Holdrege Juniors fall to Elimination Bracket

MINDEN – The Holdrege Wilkins ADP Juniors fell 9-7 in a back and forth game with the York Cornerstone Kings in the second round of the B6 Area Tournament Saturday afternoon.

York got their scoring going early in the second innings thanks to a balk to score Collin Kotschwar. Holdrege would answer right back though, scoring four runs in the third, all with two outs, thanks to two run singles from Elijah Bergstrom and Landon Hartzog to go up 4-1. From there, both teams continued to struggle to score runs, until the top of the sixth. York scored four runs in the fourth, but with no hits. They scored thanks to four walks, a hit by pitch, and an error to take a 5-4 lead. Holdrege would again answer right away though, scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth thanks to a RBI single from Eli Kidder and a two run single from Tegan Weaver. Holdrege held a 7-5 lead going in the seventh. York answered again, scoring four runs thanks to a RBI single from James Samson, a wild pitch, and a two run single from Ashtyn Demuth to give York a 9-7 lead. From there, Kotschwar relieved Kain Combs who pitched the first six innings, and York held on to win.

Nick Taylor took the loss for Holdrege in a relief appearance going 1.1 innings allowing three runs on two hits with two strikeouts and a walk. Weaver finished 2-4 with two RBI’s, with both Bergstrom and Hartzog knocking in two runs as well. Combs got the win for York, going six innings allowing seven runs on nine hits and four strikeouts and three walks. Demuth was 2-3 with two RBI’s and a walk.

With the win, York improves to 12-6, and will face the winner of Minden/Aurora in a winners bracket game tomorrow at 7 PM. Holdrege falls to 17-5 and will face the winner of Cozad/Doniphan in an elimination game at 1 PM. You can hear that game on KUVR 1380 AM and 96.9 FM.
