Hastings-Cozad was knocked out of the Class C State softball tournament on Thursday losing 5-1 to Yutan/Mead. The Haymakers actually scored first, in the first after pinch runner Kiley Porter scored after Madison Sayer put the ball into play on bunt. Yutan/Mead however would score once in the 2nd and 3rd innings. They would tack on two big runs in the 6th and would put the game away as Katie Hanson hit a two run homer in the top of the 7th. Cozad had chances with runners on 2nd base in the 4th, 5th and 6th innings but could never come up with a big hit. Regan Armagost reached base twice with a single and a walk and Shaundra Wiederholt had a double for the Haymakers. Shaylynn Campbell was effective in the circle for the Patriots as she struck out 12 as she picked up the win. Cozad ends the season at 24-13.
