Haymakers Come up Short in Hastings

Hastings- A big second inning lifted Bishop Neumann to a 9-1 win in five innings over Cozad in the Class C state softball quarterfinals. The Cavaliers were helped out by two walks and two Haymaker errors in that inning. The big hit came from Mary Chvatal who drove in three with a double. Macy Sabatka who was the winning pitcher tacked on a two run homer the 3rd inning that pushed the score to 7-1. Neumann improves to 31-2 on the season. Cozad managed just three hits coming from Regan Armagost, Shaundra Wiederholt and Aubree Eldridge. The Haymaker’s lone run came in the 3rd when Katie Wilson who reached on an error was driven in by Wiedherholt single. Cozad falls to 24-12 and will play Yutan/Mead in an elimination game at 11:30.
