OVERTON – In a rare Saturday night high school football game, Elm Creek dominated from start to finish, defeating Overton 50-14.

Elm Creek would assert their dominance early as they scored 36 points in the first quarter. On the first play from scrimmage, Jaxon Smith ran 48 yards for a touchdown. The next two drives would see Beau Knapp complete passes of 20 yards and seven yards to Trent Watkins, both for touchdowns. Carter Erickson would score two touchdowns before the half. He ran from five yards out and 49 yards for his touchdowns.

Despite being plagued by injuries, Overton never gave up and stepped up defensively after the first quarter, only allowing the Buffaloes to score two more times, both coming in the second half. Gage Clifton would snag an interception in the second quarter from Knapp.

Overton would find the scoreboard to start the second half after Elm Creek backup quarterback Kade Sindt fumbled the ball. Will Kulhanek would scoop up the loose ball and score from 30 yards out. The Buffaloes would cough up the football on their next drive as Isaiah Quintana fumbled the ball and was recovered by Tripp Davenport. It would be a short lived offensive series for the Eagles as quarterback Hayden Muirhead would throw an interception at his five yard line to Knapp who returned it for a touchdown.

Elm Creek would score one more time in the fourth quarter on a 23 yard run by Erickson. Overton answered on their next drive just before the end of the game with a 46 yard run by Muirhead for the touchdown.

Elm Creek stays undefeated and improved to 6-0 while Overton dropped to 1-5. The Buffaloes host Twin Loup next week while the Eagles host Ansley-Litchfield for their final home game next Friday.
