The Electronic logging device has been a cause for concern within the livestock industry since it was introduced in 2012.

According to the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, the ELD is currently in a delay phase through Sept. 30, 2021.  The current delay includes the 150 air-mile exemption.

Current federal law limits drivers to 14 on-duty hours at a maximum of 11 consecutive hours, which requires 10 consecutive hours of rest in a 24-hour period.

Allison Rivera, executive director for government affairs at the NCBA stated, “One size fits all does not work in the livestock hauling world.”

The cattle industry group says they will continue to push for flexibility when it comes to livestock hauling. Additionally, they will look to find delays to address industry concerns and pass the Tread Act.
