Drugs intercepted Thursday on I-80 drug pipeline

    A 35-year-old Monrovia, CA man was arraigned in Dawson County Court Friday morning on multiple drug charges stemming from a traffic stop on Thursday.   Archolis Johnson is charged with suspicion of Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Cocaine and Possession of Marijuana.  Dawson County Judge Jeff Wightman set Johnson’s bond at 10% of $1 Million.  His next court hearing is set for August 18, 2022 at 11:30am.

    Late Thursday afternoon, a State Patrol trooper was patrolling Interstate 80 when he stopped a vehicle for speeding near the Cozad interchange.  During contact with the driver, the trooper detected the odor of marijuana from the vehicle.  The trooper had probable cause to search the vehicle and located a THC vape pen in the driver’s pocket.  In the vehicle, the trooper uncovered a metal plate with marijuana residue.  In the cargo area the trooper found two cardboard boxes containing 23.2 pounds of methamphetamine in 21 packages along with 2.8 pounds of cocaine in one package and 3.6 pounds of Marijuana in 4 packages.   Johnson, the lone occupant of the vehicle was arrested and booked into the Dawson County Jail.  The rental vehicle he was driving was towed to an impound lot.
