LEXINGTON, NE – Crossroads Mission Avenue recently opened a thrift store in Lexington, Nebraska and it is in the facility they purchased in 2022 that will be turned into a homeless shelter and transitional housing. It’s located at 907 W. 8th St.

“It was a strong opening. We had a lot of people stop by. We had a lot of excitement. Not just customers (came in), but people that want to get involved. They want to help out,” said  Crossroads Mission Executive Director Daniel Buller.

Crossroads Thrift Store takes any kind of donation. Buller says they don’t turn anything down and find a use for everything. Buller also says they need volunteers at the thrift store.

Buller adds the thrift store will only be temporary as work will begin in 2024 to renovate the former Love in Action building into 17 one-room apartments for the homeless community in Dawson County.

“We will keep a (thrift) store in Lexington indefinitely because that fits within our business model; to support homeless ministry and outreach,” says Buller.

Also, not only will Crossroads provide these services to the area, they also have been providing a mobile food pantry once a month in Lexington.

In regards to the future shelter, Crossroads Mission Avenue received an $80,000 donation on Monday, Feb. 6th from Healthy Blue (the trade name of Community Care Health Plan of Nebraska, Inc., an independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association.) to go towards construction.
