ARAPAHOE – In a game that seemed like a prize fight between two boxers that refused to go down it was Arapahoe’s 1-2 punch of Tristan White (jersey no. 1) and Wyatt Jenkins (jersey no. 2) that finally put Alma to the canvas as the Warriors knocked out the Cardinals 56-40 in the first round of D-1 playoffs Thursday night.

Arapahoe came out swinging, scoring quickly to take a two touchdown lead early in the first quarter on touchdowns by Jenkins and White and appeared to be on their way to a rout. However, Alma had other plans. The Cardinals threw every bit of the play book at Arapahoe and battle back to tie the game up at 20-20 by half time.

Alma wasted no time getting the lead in the second half. On the first play from scrimmage, Ayden Molzahn found Elliot Fletcher on a 60 yard touchdown strike to give the Cardinals a 28-20 lead. White evened it up later and then scored again on the next drive to give Arapahoe the lead. Jenkins then tried for the knockout blow when he scored on a 32 yard run to put the Warriors up 42-28, going into the fourth quarter.

Molzahn found brother Alek on a 10 yard strike and Fletcher again to make it a one-score game. However, White added two more touchdowns, to give him five on the night. The Warriors added a safety to get the win, 56-40. Both White and Jenkins finished with 221 yards rushing and combined for 8 touchdowns as Arapahoe advances to the second round of the D1 playoffs, they now await their next foe. Alma ends the year with a great performance against one of the highest rated teams in state.
