Cover Crop Workshop/ Adams County Extension office/ Hastings
Cover Crop workshop to be held in Hastings
A workshop highlighting cover crops will be offered at the Adams County Extension office, 2975 S. Baltimore Ave, Hastings, Ne, on Tuesday, March 21, 9:00 – 11:00 am.
Information will be shared about the implementation and economics of incorporating cover crops into cropping systems. Planting cover crops after corn or soybeans is a well-tested farming practice that will reduce soil erosion and improve soil condition while assisting with weed control and nutrient management. The long term economic value of incorporating this practice is not as well understood. University of Nebraska Extension Educator, Dr. Katja Koehler-Cole will be discussing the basics of including cover crops, while University of Nebraska Agriculture Economics Extension Specialist, Dr. Cory Walters will discuss the economics of the system. Participants will learn about:
– the cost and value of cover crops
– best management practices
– long term economic value
– effect of stress on the economics, and
– financial assistance programs
There is no cost to attend but pre-registration is requested by March 20th. Please contact the University of Nebraska Extension Office in Adams County at 402-461-7209 or twila.bankson@unl.edu .
